8 students were chosen to represent the Lycée Francais Charles De Gaulle at the inaugural ISSA Beach Volleyball Tournament at the arena courts in Barn Elms Sports Centre in London.
This extraordinary facility was created using the sand from the beach volleyball courts at the London 2012 Olympics. The Lycée players used the facility for training there a couple of times before to prepare for their participation.
The competition started very early on Friday 5th May with sunny weather accompanying them for the whole day. Teams from different schools including ACS Cobham, ACS Egham, TASIS, Tiffin, Epsom College, Brighton College and Sevenoaks entered teams to show their skills on the sand and enjoy a journey of great sportsmanship.
Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games English no.1 men and women beach pairs acted as tournament ambassadors interacting with the students and playing an exhibition game during the lunch interval.
The LFCG Girls teams were represented by Charlotte A., Constance M., Isabelle G., and Amelie M. Despite being one of the youngest squads our girls performed extraordinarily well with a great improvement during the games. They beat the initial nerves and were more and more comfortable on the sand building a good game based on their consistency when serving. A great effort from our students and satisfaction to their teachers and the group of parents who accompanied them.
The Lycée boys were Orlando G., Tien A., Quentin B. and Paul R.
Tien and Orlando who are classmates from 2nde demonstrated their skills and attitude for sport fighting with the top teams and promising high results in the near future.
But one more time the epic and the combative spirit of the Lycée were well represented by Quentin and Paul, from Terminale, who won the tournament beating the always strong American school Egham in the Final.
A great organisation, a fantastic experience for the students and a remarkable result to make us proud of our colours. Allez Lycée!!!
