The LFCG Medical Centre, headed by Dr Momeni, School Doctor, is happy to resume its health and wellbeing prevention programme for pupils with live conferences and interactive workshops.
This term, following the prevention on alcohol aimed at 3ème pupils in March, 4ème pupils learnt more about sex and the law when 1ère and TAL received insightful advice on how to do their best in exams and how to keep harmful stress in check.
In 4ème, the SVT/Biology curriculum covers human reproduction. To complete the scientific knowledge on this subject, pupils took part in a very interactive session about sex and the law, particularly focusing on consent, led by Sion Davies. Mr Davies is a Relationships and Sex Education Coordinator who has regularly given talks and workshops at the Lycée.
The session, held in all 4ème classes, allowed for the clarification of various concepts with real life examples, fun quizzes and informal case studies. Participation of the pupils was encouraged to check their understanding of notions such as respect, consent, feminism or harassment. Making each other feel safe in a relationship is key; pupils brainstormed on what small changes each person can contribute to reach that goal. Mr Davies also shared information on dedicated services in local areas and useful contacts.
On a very different topic, exam classes (1ère and TAL) benefited from Dr Aric Sigman’s precious tips. The psychologist lectures on PSHE health education at schools and to parents as well as at medical schools and to NHS doctors on numerous topics. He is a regular speaker at the LFCG, for parents and pupils.
On this occasion, Dr Sigman helped students with pointers on how to adapt to stress, limit it and be able to perform at their best at upcoming exams, all of this supported by scientific studies and data.
After explaining stress and its impact on brain and body functions, the presentation gave handy guidance to students encouraging them to:
This helpful todo/checklist, including an exam day special, will certainly support students during their Bac and A-Level exams for which reading weeks will start soon. All the best to them all!
