TAL Historians recently visited the London Coliseum for a dress rehearsal of Philip Glass' mesmerising opera Satyagraha.
The English National Opera is only just opening its doors to the public for its first season post-pandemic; both its Musical and Artistic Directors took to the stage to welcome Londoners back into the city's largest theatre.
Glass' iconic, modernist score was complemented by wonderful (gigantic) puppetry and choreography.
The students gained an insight into the intellectual development of Gandhi and his early campaigns in British South Africa. This may help them with their forthcoming studies on the British Empire. Some students felt the opera was amazing, others felt the seats became uncomfortable after a couple of hours!
Either way, thanks to Dr Carsson for organising!
