SI 3e and 4e pupils, like all pupils in the International Section, study classic literature as well as history in English. Ms Rai's classes are exploring Shakespeare's Midsummer's Night Dream and Steinbeck' Of Mice and Men in light of their historical context as well as analysing the literary devices and language subtleties of these famous works.
Focusing on American history, pupils study the Roaring Twenties, The Great Depression following the Wall Street Crash and its consequences on workers and farmers migrating to find better opportuniites.
Using the novel as a basis for written comprehension, language study and creative writing tasks, this project also encourages class discussions about important themes such as racial, gender and social inequalities.
