AS Volleyball - Competition report

Every year the Lycée Français Charles de Gaulle send Boys and Girls Teams to an international competition to represent in Volleyball.

Normally the competition is restricted to those schools that form the International School Sports Association, with up to 10 schools participating in each competition. This year, following the various restrictions and complications associated with travel, it was decided that only schools based in England would participate. To provide more varied competition, the ISSA combined with those schools who normally participate in the ISST, traditionally of a higher standard.

The inaugural combined tournament took place over two days with 12 schools represented in both boys and girls.

Playoff matches on the first day were played to create two divisions of six teams. Both Lycée Teams played good consistent volleyball and qualified for their respective Division 1’s. This in itself is a very impressive result considering the strength of the schools competing.

Both teams displayed the normal characteristics associated with Lycée Teams: determination, desire to compete and at the same time those qualities of fair play.

The Girls team went very close to achieving a place in the semi-finals losing by 2 sets to 1, and by only two points to Marymount. They went on to finish 5th place after winning their final placings match against TASIS.

The Boys were able to go even further, not only achieving but also winning the semi-final. A strong committed performance in the semi-final against ASL, whom we had lost to in the group stages. Against all odds, the Boys triumphed in the final, defeating TASIS to claim the trophy and medals. TASIS were another team that required the boys to reverse previous results. The courage, ability, teamwork and determination exemplified by Lycée students was outstanding and made them deserving Winners of the Competition Trophy much to the delight of both staff and parents in attendance!

We are very fortunate to continually have students, both boys and girls, that compete, and in the process make us proud and all the hard work worthwhile. They were fantastic ambassadors of the values of the Lycée.

Félicitations to all involved!
